TECHNICAL DEPT.

Introduction and Highlights:
Technical Department of the Radio Station serves as the backbone of all Radio station’s broadcasting services with a lot and lot of challenges due to the commitment and new technology which is changing day by day. See location, treats and how this department operates.

Meet the Technical staff and see how they operate:
Maputaland Community Radio Technical team consists of three technologists of the modern technology. Those are: Mr Cebolenkosi Mthembu, Ms Thobile Khumalo and Mr Silence Khumalo who is the Head of the Department.

Find some of their operations:

  • They maintain all studios and technical equipments in the station.
  • Ensures the good quality sound from the Radio Station to listeners` radio sets.
  • Live broadcasting services.
  • Ensures 24 hours availability at the station for any technical problems which may arise.

Maputaland Community Radio is operating under Umkhanyakude District Municipality with five local municipalities i.e. Jozini, Umhlabuyalingana, Hlabisa, Hluhluwe and Mtubatuba with almost ±580 000 people.

We are at the stage whereby sometimes not covers some of the areas in these municipalities due to either one of the following reasons.

  1. Low power in our transmitter since it is set to 500 watts.
  2. Geographical situation of our areas (hills and trees) that causes treat on signal distribution.
  3. Signal interference with other radio stations (e.g. Swaziland and Mozambique) since we are along the boarders.

  • Due to the latest technology supported by Department of Communication you will soon listen to Maputaland Community Radio from Digital Satellite Television sets (DSTV) anywhere across the country.
  • On one of the effort Technical Department is busy trying to sort is the issue of interference of signal and also to increase the coverage of the Radio Station to the nearby areas as people demand on our services.

Once more I would like to give thanks to the supporting companies which support the most in this department at the station mentioning few, BA Sound in Durban; Sound Fusion in Jo’burg; Sentech Company and Prosound.
