PROGRAMMING DEPT.

It is within our programming policy to produce entertaining, educative and informative programmes. This is made possible through hard work of the programming team namely: Silence Khumalo, Nelisiwe Nhlenyama, Buhle Khumalo, Sifiso Kunene, Timothy Mathe, Thulile Tembe, Themba Mthembu, Wonderboy Mathenjwa, Nompumelelo Zwane, Cebo Mthembu, Nonjabulo Ndebele, Themba Mkhwanazi, Vusi Ntshangase and Rev. Zwane as well as the Nozipho Qwabe who is the head of the department.

In the programming department we also have the programming committee that seek to expose community initiatives, needs, aspirations and commitment thus overcoming the challenges of communication in Maputaland region. The MCRS programming committee contribute much in developing programmes through suggestion boxes distributed in key areas, telephone contact, promotional events organized by the committee in consultation with the station manager and the stations management, marketing public forums and timeous community mapping that seek to restructure or reshuffle the programs.

 Regular Programmes:
We have successful regular developmental programmes like Ezabancane which is kid’s radio programme. This is a life skill based programme for both parents and young children. We are also running an educational programme designed for matric students as an intervention programme called Get Wise “Hlakanipha”. Education specialists with expertise from all subjects are invited in the studio to provide tips for matric candidates. This assists in increasing the matric pass rate locally and provincially.

Outreach Programmes:
One of our two most successful out reach programmes is Ingonyama kaJuda which is a religious out-reach. This helps to unearth local aspiring gospel music groups and to market those who have just recorded their music. It also provides an opportunity for religious leaders to preach spiritual sermons and assist in crime alleviation, thus uplifting the positive standard of living.

The second outreach programme is Isixaxa which literally means “pulling together”. This is an adult and general folk’s programme where friendship and sense of belonging is created. Through this outreach there is a specific radio programme made for Isixaxa where they phone each other for dedication and discuss some burning issues that negatively affect our communities.

This programme has grown in length and breadth since they have opened up about 21 branches where they meet monthly and annually. Issues of fundraising and poverty alleviation in their communities are discussed and met. They also give report about different views from community members about different programmes, this has helped us a lot to concentrate to our community needs, as this informs our programme design and content.
